Working Principle

How does a Modular External Gear Pump work?

The pump features a horizontal shaft, 180° port position and has 2 external gears. The pump shaft operates, moving the gears that draw liquid into the port. The liquid fills the space between the gear and is transported towards the pump outlet as the shafts turn.

By-Pass/Pressure Relief Valve Operation:

The valves protect the pump and drive unit from over-pressurisation. When activated, they divert excess fluid from the discharge side to the suction side, allowing recirculation until normal flow is restored. By-Passes can be fitted in pipework or directly on the pump head and are spring-loaded and adjustable to suit changing system requirements.

Key Features

External Gear Pumps come with many benefits, some of which include:

  • Pulse-Free Flow: Accurate and smooth flow at high pressures (up to 30 bar)
  • Ideal for Viscous Liquids: Can pump fluids too viscous for Centrifugal Pumps
  • Compact & Robust: Simple design and few moving parts for cost-effectiveness
  • Self-priming: Excellent dry-lift capabilities
  • Bi-Directional Operation
  • ATEX Available: Suitable for hazardous environments
